Date:
05.01.2013

The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a resolution at the scheduled board meeting on April 18, 2013, which authorizes the preparation and submission of a grant application to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for parks and recreation funding through the Recreation Trails Program (RTP).  The resolution authorized the grant application to apply for $200,000 in state funds and approved the local match of $50,000.  If successful, the grant would be used to continue the ongoing construction of the Calfkiller River Walking Trail system which is designed to make the scenic Calfkiller River more assessable to the public.  The 2013 application will include a continuation of the walking trail from its present termination point in the Old City Cemetery to a point on the east bank of the Calfkiller River where a new walking bridge would be constructed to connect with the trail in South Carter Street River Park on the west side of the river.  The deadline for submission of the grant application is May 3, 2013.
